With a diverse population and a large public school system, New Britain is a flourishing business and industrial center.
Large condominiums and apartments, traditional colonials, ranches and contemporaries comprise the housing in this town. Historic homes and a spectacular park that overlooks the city are located in the Walnut Hill area, which was designed by Frederick Law Olmstead. Also in the Walnut Hill district is the New Britain Museum of American Art, including pieces from the colonial period, Depression-era WPA paintings and contemporary works. Willow Brook Park Sports Complex is home to the minor league professional baseball team.
New Britain's public schools provide education for all age and achievement levels. Private education is also offered as well as continuing educations programs that adults may take classes in the evening for. Specialized training is available at the Vocational and technical schools, along with a spectrum of degree programs offered at Central Connecticut State University.
The city is accessible from Interstate 84 and Route 9.
